Steven R. Fox

Steve has strong roots in the Traverse City community.   Steve's grandparents moved to Traverse City in the 60's from Ann Arbor, and he was fortunate to enjoy time at their home on East Grand Traverse Bay from the time he was born.   In upper elementary, Steve's family moved to Traverse City from southeastern Michigan, and he graduated from the Traverse City Senior High School in 1987.  Though he is not a technically a "native" as that term is used in Traverse City, he is close.

Steve attended Northwestern Michigan College before graduating from the University of Michigan in 1991 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science.   Steve met his soulmate and wife, Susan Lehman, at the University of Michigan, and they are diehard U of M fans, who attend football games in Ann Arbor regularly.

Steve graduated from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1994, where he participated in moot court, the law journal, student government, community outreach programs, and worked with the Wayne County Circuit Court, the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission, and two prominent law firms in downtown Detroit.

Steve and his wife, Susan, have three children, all of whom have attended TCAPS.  Steve has served as a volunteer and board member to many local organizations, including the Sunrise Rotary Club, the Grand Traverse Ski Club, Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer,  Third Level Legal Clinic, the Traverse City Area Public Schools, the Grand Traverse University of Michigan Club, the Grand Traverse Leelanau Antrim Bar Association, and others.

Steve's practice emphasis includes business, real estate, estate planning and divorce.  Steve represents many small businesses throughout the region and state, including statewide nonprofit organizations, and he represents many local professionals in their businesses whether as a startup, in employment disputes, regulatory compliance or business succession.  Steve has extensive experience representing fractional ownership interests, such as condominium developers, associations, and co-owners.  He also represents  businesses, municipalities, and individuals in navigating land use and water rights disputes before and during litigation, including administrative proceedings before local planning commissions and zoning boards of appeals, and litigation in state and federal courts, including successful appeals to the Michigan Court of Appeals.  Steve has obtained substantial judgements and settlements  in business, real estate, and ERISA litigation.  Steve has been involved in several successful appeals resulting in reported opinions, including Numerick v Krull, 265 Mich App 232, 694 NW 2d 552 (2005), leave denied, 474 Mich 877, 704 NW 2d 76 (2005).
